Tonight was the night that Johnny was going to find out once and for all what was in his closet. He threw off the covers and took the last shivering, shaking steps to the closet door. He shifted, Howard his worn and tattered dinosaur to his left arm and reached his right hand toward the door knob. He stopped and wiped the sweat that was rolling off of his forehead, onto his pajamas. Again, he lifted his hand to the door knob. Slowly he began turning the knob.
He heard the “monster” moving and then felt the doorknob begin move and the door started to open.
Johnny put his right foot against the door to stop it from opening all the way. He took three deep breaths and slowly pulled the closet door open and there it was, “the monster” the most repulsive disgusting thing he had ever seen. The smell was worse than sour milk and rotten eggs. Johnny stepped back and the creature shuffled into the room and plopped down right in front of him. It was a short smelly creature that was covered from head to toe with green shaggy, dread lock looking hair. It looked like a miniature big foot with its long arms and colossal hands and feet. The creature’s big brown eyes and huge puffy lips were all I could make out of its face under the thick dreadlocks. The creature suddenly opened its wide mouth like it was going to say something, but instead it blew out a combination of foul-smelling bubbles, burps and hiccups. Johnny started laughing and was just about to reach out and touch the funny looking creature, when he heard his mom yell, “Johnny, time for dinner” and in a flash the little creature had disappeared again into the deep dark unknowns of the closet.
